A few kilometers away from Agia Kyriaki is located the beach of Agia Vaso. It can only be accessed through a dirt road so most of the time the use of a 4×4 vehicle is required. A few meters before reaching the beach of Agia Vaso turn right at the “pen” and park your car. During the summer months the shepherd has moved its flock to a more mountainous location so the area will probably be deserted.

However whenever we have met the friendly shepherd, he has never objected to our vehicles being parked next to his facilities in order to go down to the beach.

The beach due to the difficult access and the small size is not preferred by swimmers, more so since depending on the weather, garbage may have been washed ashore. The sea is rocky and deepens relatively quickly, however the waters are clear and suitable for snorkeling, as the seabed is interesting from the first steps.

Enter the water, perform the necessary checks and dive directly.

Start the dive and follow the left side of the small bay, at about 210 degrees (if you do not have a compass do not worry, let the site guide you). The relief leads you deep and along the way you will encounter several large rock formations filled with sponges. Pay attention to the vegetation on these rocks, as most of the time you will see several nudibranchs.

From 27 to 35 meters the gorgonians make their appearance. Take your time to admire them, as it is rare to encounter so many gorgonians in such accessible from land depths. Be careful with buoyancy, as in no case would we want to “injure” the gorgonians with a stroke.

Normally, at this point you will have consumed a sufficient amount of air and will have to return, taking into account the 3 minute safety stop at 5 meters. The dive is normally executed without decompression stops, but in any case trust your dive computers or boards.

PS: This is the only place that has gorgonians in this particular dive. If you have come prepared for a tec diving you can continue as the place deepens and retains its morphology, but you will hardly find anything else more exciting.
